Weekend...

Hi folks! Ugh, what a busy five days I have had! We recieved our school supplies from the states on Friday, so there have been many curriculum books to go through and much unpacking at school. It is a lot to take in!

On Friday for my birthday I went to a spa in Dalian for a Hongkong style back massage. The massage was great, but the spa turned out to be a men's bathhouse with women "services" available, which was a little awkward. A dark room, red lighting, soft music....We were the only women in the establishment, and by the time we figured out what we had gotten ourselves into it was too late to back out. But, like I said, the massage was good. A little Chinese woman walked on my back! And, at one point she had me wrap my legs around hers and press the front of my feet against her knees. Then, unexpectedly, she lifted me off the table in a sort of backbend! I screamed "Oh my god!" in surprise, and all the men getting massages on the 15 other massage tables in the room started laughing and mimicking, "Oh my gawd!"

On Saturday I went to a softball game hosted by the Canadian Maple Leaf school (My team won by the way, but by no assistance of mine, I throw like a girl...hmm) Oh, and apparently I will always be the board-tester in my family, because I stepped down off a set of ancient looking bleachers and straight through the baseboards. I made a huge hole in the board and fell flat on the ground, scraping my shin.

Later we all went to a mexican restaurant in Dalian for dinner, which was pretty good. Interesting to be immersed in a foreign community. I can easily forget that I am on the other side of the globe. I need to make sure I don't do that.

Anyway, I am beginning another work week. I just completed a second great Mandarin lesson, and am off to bed!
