Job Security

You know, they planted trees outside of my window during the spring landscaping extravaganza. It looked really beautiful. Well actually, first they dug deep hole for each tree. Then a week later they filled all the holes in. Then they re-dug the same holes. Then they planted the trees. It is this nice Japanese evergreen type tree with these interesting spiralling branches. Beautiful. A few weeks passed. Then this weekend, the grounds crew returned to this spot and dug up all these trees (full-grown beasts might I add) and took them out, leaving big holes once more. The next day, they returned with different trees of the same type. They planted these trees yesterday. And my front yard looks exactly the same as it did three days ago. Ask any Chinese person the meaning of this episode? They will shrug and smile and say, "Oh that? That's job security." Hmm, interesting.
